Britannica and Alpha Centauri

In the Britannica for Public Libraries I chose the topic of Alpha Centauri since I had been reading in the news a new planet had been discovered circling this star that is the closest one to our solar system. I was surprised and pleased that the Britannica article had already been updated to indicate the discovery of this new planet, Alpha Centauri B b. I also learned that an exosolar planet (a term I hadn't heard before) is the same as an exoplanet through a link in the article.

I clicked on the website link in the left navigation bar.  This brought me to the eSky wesite where there were some nice pictures and more detail on Alpha Centauri and another star, Vega.

When I looked at the Britannica Blog I saw a link to article titled, The Electoral College:Outdated Artifact of History. This article was intersting given the upcoming election.

For public libraries, the news of the day might be a good way for students to do a current news assignment without having to go to Google news and troll through a lot of stories.

I think we usually don't think of using an encyclopedia for very recent information but Britannica seems to be doing a good job of keeping articles current.  Gone are the days of an old preint resource with out of date/misinformation!  Although I do love the old classic Britannica and would love a set of the 14th edition!

Nice Tutorials

The three tutorials are very informative, short and nicely paced.
Great job Stephanie!
